Piles
What are piles (Hemorrhoids)?
Piles, also known as hemorrhoids (बवासीर), are a common medical condition that affects millions of people worldwide. While often uncomfortable and even painful, piles can usually be managed effectively with proper understanding, lifestyle changes, and medical treatment if necessary.
Piles are swollen and enlarged veins in the anal and rectal area. They can occur internally within the rectum or externally around the anus (गुदा नली). Hemorrhoids(बवासीर) are classified into various types:
Types of Piles (बवासीर के प्रकार)
Internal Piles (आंतरिक बवासीर): Internal piles develop within the rectum and are usually painless. They are divided into four grades based on their severity:
- Grade 1: Small piles that are not visible externally and remain within the rectum.
- Grade 2: Larger piles that may protrude from the rectum during bowel movements but retract on their own.
- Grade 3: Piles that protrude during bowel movements and need to be manually pushed back in.
- Grade 4: Piles that are permanently prolapsed and cannot be pushed back in.
External Piles (बाहरी बवासीर): External piles develop around the anus and can be painful. They may cause discomfort, itching, and bleeding during bowel movements.
Thrombosed Piles (घनास्त्र बवासीर): Thrombosed piles occur when blood within an external pile clots, leading to severe pain and swelling around the anus.
Prolapsed Piles (आगे को बढ़ा हुआ): Both internal and external piles can prolapse, meaning they stretch and bulge outside of your anus. These piles may bleed or cause pain.
Causes of Piles (बवासीर के कारण)
Several factors contribute to the development of piles:
- Straining during bowel movements
- Due to constipation
- Chronic diarrhea
- Prolonged sitting on the toilet.
- Obesity and lack of physical activity.
- Pregnancy, as the growing uterus puts pressure on the veins in the pelvic area.
- Aging, as the tissues supporting the veins weaken over time.
What are signs & symptoms of Piles? (बवासीर के लक्षण)
The symptoms of piles can vary based on the type and severity:
- Itching, irritation, and discomfort around the anal area.
- Pain or discomfort during bowel movements.
- Blood on toilet paper or in the toilet bowl after bowel movements.
- Protrusion of tissue during bowel movements.
- Swelling and a lump around the anus.
- Pain, especially in the case of thrombosed piles.
Complications of Piles? (बवासीर से संबंधित जटिलताएँ)
If left untreated, piles can lead to various complications like
- Anaemia: Prolonged bleeding from piles can lead to anaemia, a condition characterised by a deficiency of red blood cells.
- Thrombosis: In the case of thrombosed piles, blood clots can form within the piles, causing intense pain and swelling.
- Strangulation: Piles that remain prolapsed can become strangulated, meaning the blood supply is cut off, leading to severe pain and tissue damage.
- Infection: Scratching or excessive cleaning of the anal area can lead to infections.
Prevention of Piles(बवासीर के रोकथाम )
- Eating a high-fibre diet to prevent constipation.
- Staying hydrated and exercising regularly.
- Don’t sit too long or push too hard on the toilet.
- Drink plenty of water
